During their first year of school, students begin to understand numbers, order, sequence, patterns, and position in relation to familiar surroundings. Mathematics in Years 1 and 2 emphasizes the development of numeracy. Students are introduced to mathematical symbols and language to communicate and explain mathematical ideas.
